Corporate matching and payroll giving
If your employer supports matched giving, one clear request can substantially increase your total. Confirm scheme rules early and send HR all required details in one email.
Matched giving
Matched giving means your employer matches donations made by employees, usually pound for pound up to a cap. If you raise £500 in sponsorship and your company matches it, that is £1,000 for the charity from the same set of donors.
Some employers only match donations made on specific platforms, or only for approved charities. Check this before launch.
How to ask HR
Keep the request easy to approve by sending all details in one email:
- What you are doing: the challenge format and confirmed event date.
- Which charity you are raising money for, and the registered charity number.
- What you are asking for: matched giving, a one-off corporate donation, or both.
- Your donation link so HR can verify destination and platform.
- A practical response date for campaign planning.
For team campaigns, send one request on behalf of the group.
Payroll giving
Payroll giving is separate from event sponsorship. It is an ongoing pre-tax salary donation, so a £10 donation can cost less depending on tax band.
Not every employer offers payroll giving. If available, include it as an optional route in team launch comms.
