Frequently Asked Questions on the Surrey Three Peaks events

  • Do I have to wear walking boots?

Yes! Our events require all participants and staff to wear walking boots, rather than trail running shoes or approach shoes.

If you usually prefer shoes, manufacturers such as Salomon, Scarpa, Mammut and Innov8 make lightweight boots suitable for our challenges.

  • Are there toilets on the route?

Toilets are available at the start courtesey of the Burford Bridge Hotel. After the Ranmore Common support stop toilets will be available at Denbies, at approximately 3pm.

  • How fit do I need to be for the Surrey Three Peaks?

Please check our training advice for guidance on fitness. We'll walk in several groups, at an average speed of about 4.5km per hour (2.8 miles per hour), or 1km per 13 minutes.

  • Is there a minimum age to take part in the Surrey Three Peaks?

We can accept participants of 12 years-of-age and over - please check with us in advance of booking. We require that participants who are under 18 are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • How do we book for a group?

Either, proceed with a single booking for all your group members. We'll send you a participant form link to share with your group. You'll need to arrange payments amongst yourselves.

Or, book for yourself (and any close group members), and we'll give you a group booking link to share - anyone who uses that link to book will be grouped with you as normal on the challenge, but be responsible for their own payments and forms.

  • Can I take part in the Surrey Three Peaks while pregnant?
Our guidance is that you shouldn't take part in the Surrey Three Peaks while pregnant.
  • In what order do we walk the Surrey Three Peaks?

We walk south to Leith Hill first, then across to Holmbury Hill, back up via Ranmore Common and finish on Box Hill, for a quick walk back to base.

  • How often are water top-ups?

Please come topped up with water at the start. We'll meet our support team twice between the hills when they will provide water top-ups, at approximately 11am after Leith Hill top, and 2.30pm at the top of Ranmore Common.

  • Can I bring my dog?

You're very welcome to bring your dog! Please bear in mind that the route is largely over farmland, so they will need to be kept on a lead throughout.

  • Do we need accommodation?

Only if you're not within easy travelling distance. We start just by the Burford Bridge Hotel, so this is a good spot to stay. There are a few other options nearby.

  • What do we get afterwards?

Certificates of achievement are included in our organised event to be handed out afterwards.

Surrey Three Peaks Medals are also available online from the Three Peaks Shop.
